Composite cost of borrowing for households and firms in the EU 2020-2022
Since the beginning of 2022, the cost of borrowing for new loans in the European Union increased
steadily, reaching 2.88 percent for households and 3.09 percent for businesses, the highest levels throughout the period considered. Rising inflation for the European Central Bank (ECB) to increase its interest rate for the first time since 2016, which will lead to further increases in the cost of borrowing.
