Displacements in African region of Liptako Gourma 2021, by country
As of October 2021, there were over two million displaced people in the Liptako Gourma region, including 1.9 million internally displaced. Over 1.4 million were located in Burkina Faso, accounting for almost 70 percent of the displaced people. The Liptako Gourma region, in the Central Sahel area, includes parts of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. This region is affected by a crisis caused by various factors: poverty, lack of livelihood, climate variability, growing demographics, competition over dwindling resources, tensions among groups, and absence of state institutions and services.
