Decisions on contraception among women in Africa 2007-2018, by country
Worldwide, about 10 percent of women are not free to decide on contraception. The situation in Western and Central Africa is particularly concerning, as the rates are the lowest in the world. According to a recent study, only seven in ten women in Comoros had the power to decide on contraception, the lowest rate in Africa and in the world. In Mali and Niger, the percentage of women who could make this decision for themselves amounted to 77 percent, respectively, the second lowest shares in Africa.
